Summary
The LACTOSOL solar thermal plant provides renewable heat to the Verdun site of Lactalis Ingredients, which specializes in processing whey powder. By reducing gas consumption, it contributes to the site’s decarbonization.
It guarantees a continuous power supply during the night and on cloudy summer days thanks to a thermal storage system, allowing for the optimization of solar energy use. Lactosol is the largest French solar thermal plant supplying an industrial site.

We are delighted with this project, which will enable our site to adopt a sustainable approach, whilst continuing to offer the best to our customers.
Presentation of the heat consumer client
- One of the largest production sites for powdered dairy products in France
- Production of 80,000 tons per year of whey and lactose powder
Principle of technology integration
- Preheating of fresh air supplying the site’s main spray drying tower
- Integration through 2 water/air heat exchangers within the main air inlet and the regeneration of the desiccant wheel
- Fossil fuel displaced: gas
