Narboflex’s electric boiler obtains a certification for grid balancing

Narboflex, an electrical flexibility solution already in operation

Since coming into service in Narbonne, the Narboflex plant has combined an electric boiler, thermal storage and real time control based on electricity prices, to secure the cost of the heat supplied to the district heating network. This installation is the first operational reference for the standardized electrical flexibility offer developed by Newheat, deployable from 1 to 20 MW across district heating networks and industrial sites.

A new milestone: aFRR certification from RTE

Until now, the electric boiler combined with thermal storage already made it possible to modulate consumption according to electricity prices, to secure the cost of heat. With aFRR certification, it can now respond within seconds to the balancing needs of the French electricity grid. RTE has thereby validated its ability to modulate consumption in real time, a strong signal of the installation’s technical reliability.

This certification brings two concrete benefits for Narbonne’s district heating network:

• additional revenue, on top of the savings already generated by electrical control,
• a direct contribution to the stability of the French electricity grid, at a time when the electrification of heating networks and industry is accelerating.
