The TREASURE European Research & Development Programme

Newheat, along with Communauté d’Agglomération Pau Béarn Pyrénées and ENGIE Solutions, announces its participation in a European Research & Development programme entitled  TREASURE.

The TREASURE project is an innovative initiative supported by the European Union as part of its HORIZON 2.5 programme – Climate, Energy and Mobility.

It aims to demonstrate the effectiveness of in-pit thermal storage systems in decarbonising district heating networks. The TREASURE consortium, made up of 24 European partners, aims to deliver several operational demonstrators by 2027.

The EU contribution amounts to €9,894,688.40.

TREASURE Project

Study of an innovative system for storing renewable heat in pits

The aim of this project is to study the feasibility of an innovative renewable heat storage system for the Pau urban heating network.

This study, the only French initiative selected by Europe, explores the inter-seasonal storage of surplus heat produced in summer for use in winter. The technology used, Pit Thermal Energy Storage (PTES), could significantly reduce the use of natural gas and improve the proportion of renewable energy in the heating network of the Pau conurbation.

Newheat, a pioneer in renewable heat production and storage solutions, is proud to be contributing to this major innovation.
