Summary
The Condat paper mill’s solar thermal power plant is the largest installation of its kind on an industrial site in Europe. It consists of 264 solar thermal collectors with solar trackers that follow the sun’s path throughout the day, thus maximizing heat production. The heat produced and stored is then integrated into the steam production circuit used for drying the paper.

The solar thermal plant has allowed us to increase our energy mix, free ourselves from fluctuations and reduce our consumption of fossil fuels.
Presentation of the heat consumer client
- 1st coated paper production site in France (450,000 tonnes/year)
- 24/7 Operation 365 days a year
- 550 direct jobs
Principle of technology integration
- Preheating of steam boiler make-up water
- Fossil fuel displaced: Gas
Key innovation(s)
- Use of a sun tracking system (“trackers”) to optimize production and avoid the occurrence of overheating when customer consumption stops
- Installation of a solar field on a former paper sludge storage area
